Our Family's Journey Through Time & Space
Agnes Annie "Aggie" Davie
Aggie, as she was known, whas born 17 July 1884 in Ballantrea, Ayrshire, Scotland. Aggie arrived in America in 1887 from Scotland . She was 3 years old then.
At age 15, Aggie lived with her family in Blendon, Nottoway, Virginia. She married Emery Lee Bridgers
11 Dec 1907 in Nottoway, Virginia and had 6 children: Lee James,
Robert Louis, Jesse Melvin,
Nellie Agnes, John Fitzgerald
and Graham Davie Bridgers. Aggie was a proper lady who never left the house "undone".
She was a strong individual who supported her family of 6 children during the depression, while "Popeye" worked long hours on the railroad.
After a long and happy life, Aggie passed away on 23 Feb 1948 in Florence, South Carolina. She is buried at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Florence, South Carolina.
Helen Mary Zikorus
Helen Mary Zikorus was born March 24, 1923 in Needham, Massachusetts. she was the daughter of
Walter Peter Zikorus and
Rose Mary Smith. She married a man, surname Richards is all I know,
who was killed in action on D-Day in Normandy, France according to "Momma". Momma then married
Forrest Leslie Jones on June 7, 1946 in Charleston on June 7, 1946. They have 2 living children. Although I have plenty of photos
of Momma, I don't really know a whole lot about Momma's past. Everything was a secret or not talked about. I know she loved the beach and she always
did volunteer work for the Catholic Church. She kept the house clean and was a good cook and made great iced tea (for a northener). Momma
she passed away on July 30, 2012 and is buried at the Carolina Memorial Funeral Homes and Gardens in North Charleston, South Carolina. I miss her a lot.
Rose Mary Smith
My maternal grandmother, Rose Mary Smith, was born on Christmas Day, 1894 in Erzvilkas, Jurbarkas, Lithuania. she was the Daughter of
Juozapas Norkus (Smith) and
Roze Marija Danieliute. Rose married Walter Peter Zikorus on August 25, 1917.
Rose and Walter had six children: Frederick Joseph,
Edward Thomas, Albert Michael,
Helen Mary, Frances Ann and
Walter George Zikorus. I only remember being at their house in Needham, MA when I was like 1 or 2 years old but don't really remember them at all.
I remember 3 things: riding in a train, cutting my chin and my brother scaring me by playing some record on the phonograph. Rose passed away on Febuary 3, 1959,
in Needham, MA and buried at St. Mary's Cemetery in Needham.
Nelli Agnes Bridgers
Nellie or Grandmama, as she was known was born 4 August 1914 in Wilmington, New Hanover County,
North Carolina. She was the Daughter of Emery Lee Bridgers and
Agnes Annie (Aggie) Davie. Nellie
married William Norman Woodson on 2 October, 1934 and has 3 living children. Nellie was a hard working soul who cared deeply for her family and
was always helping others. She made sure the cookie jar was always filled (a hug or 2 or 3... and two kisses were required!).
Nellie passed away on December 17, 2005 and is buried at Mount Hope Cemetery in Florence, South Carolina. She is missed dearly.
Carrie Theodosia Arelia Eaddy
Carrie Theodosia Arelia Eaddy was born on December 1, 1910 in Florence, South Carolina. She was the daughter of
James Henry Eaddy Sr. and
Sarah Susannah Sports. Theodosia married
Luther James Hyman October 18 1929 in Florence, South Carolina.
Together they had 4 children: Ediphel Bernice,
Bobby Eugene,
Wayne and Lawrence Gail Hyman.
Theodosia, a grand lady, genteel and courteous, loved having her family around and there was always good food on the table,
especially her yummy pound cake. She could also "whip" the neck of a chicken quicker that you could blink an eye!
Sadly, Theodosia passed away on October 5, 1971. She is buried at Mount Hope Cemetery in Florence, South carolina.
